Programs’ Start
Possible program entry each term!
A central issue that had to be met by each program design was to
offer the entrance into any program at any term. Thus, at Cubidor
programs do not start in spring or autumn but each term. To
realize this the curricula were optimized and the term structure was
modified.
Minimum of students required for program to start. Being a
privately founded university which has to undertake all financial efforts
by itself the accreditation council agreed in the proposal that each
program starts not before a minimum of students are registered to it.
Thus, we impose a certain amount of students on each program that
trigger the programs’ start. The current status of a program's
start can be found on the respective program’s page (Please, select
the program of interest at the left navigation bar!). As soon as a
program is started it is conducted continuously.
Range of Programs
The Department for Tourism and Leisure Studies
at Cubidor University Switzerland is entitled to offer the
full range of third level education programs. All of them were
carefully designed within a special dedicated research project
to guarantee fine-tuned syllabi and contents.
Educational Matrix from Certificate to PhD. The result of
this research effort is a set of precisely defined programs that can be
seen as a chain of separate educational steps that lead from a simple
certificate up to a PhD program. This idea formed the basis of Cubidor
University Switzerland’s Educational Matrix.
Cubidor’s Educational Matrix
The graphic below shows the Cubidor University Education Matrix that
reflects the central planning instrument for all programs offered.
The central drivers of the programs were scientific knowledge (blue - how to work compliant to
standards in science’s work), operative competencies (orange - “know how to do things”) and
controlling competencies (green)
.
As a general rule of thumb the programs are designed to meet the following
assumptions:
The higher the program the more operative aspects are replaced by controlling
aspect;
Along the complexity of a program the
scientific requirements that are imposed on the student rise;
Leading and controlling functions and
managing techniques rise
coincidentally with the program’s level.
ECTS and Workload
In accordance to the Bologna Process
which elaborates guidelines to harmonize the
comparability of educational programs
, all programs that are offered by
any department of the Cubidor University Switzerland are calculated and designed
using the European Credit Transfer System.
This system estimates the overall workload of programs using
ECTS points. To
guarantee a homogenous quality standard Swiss universities are obliged to equal
one ECTS to 30 hours of workload
. This working time comprises all efforts that have
to be made by a student to pass the class. Implicitly, these are preparation or reading
times, elaborating homework or seminar papers, learning periods, projects and
preparation for and the realization of the exam!
By imposing the equivalent of 30 hours of workload per ECTS point Swiss authorities
define an additional quality criteria as the Bologna Agreement foresees an equivalent
band of 21 to 25 hours per ECTS point.
